The Present Rationale of the Terrorists and the Justice That We All Deserve

Today our country received not one, but two videotapes regarding terror threats. One seemed like the rantings of an insance prophet, while the second, which featured Osama bin Laden, spoke rationally and for the first time made their actions seem at least coherent. I don't claim to know the politics well that he cited to be his reasoning for the 9/11 bombings, i.e. Israeli/US power over Muslim countries and more specifically, the lack of security that we (apparently) have created in these countries. He spoke to us, US citizens, and equated our own security with Muslim security. Fair enough—at least in desire for security for these unstable regions which the US has gotten tangled up in. We all want security and freedom. At least we are all on the same page with that. The methods by which these people have made their voice heard is cowardly and inexcusable. Nevertheless, I also think we as a country need to start hearing the cries and rationales being raised. Disregard for the Muslim world is not acceptable, and the pig-headed tactics of our current CEO (sic), which show no respect for that part of the world, need to be shut down.

I had speculated before this recent video arose out of the labyrinth that rises out of the underworld that this country's doings in these countries remain negligent—at best. Now that these claims have been laid and the plans and inspiration (an Israeli bombing in Beruit! I believe was citied) for the 9/11 bombing have been revealed, I feel that we have a duty as a nation of the world to reflect on how we are dealing and treating and allowing bad shit to happen to good people in countries that are little known and powerless and degredated for little reason other than they have little capital.

For the last couple of years I have put my other citizenship on the shelf (the country he referred to as the "freer" country which if he was indeed after freedom, he'd have bomed) and remain in this country. Now, more than ever, I have people I want to remain here for. But the deplorable state of this country quite frankly makes me want to leave. If you think that what happens here on a daily basis, involving everyday citizens doing everyday things, has no effect on the world, you are sorely mistaken. The butterfly effect is a real phenomena, not some theorist's bullshit. Please people don't make me want to leave. Please make this a place that allows us to not only feel merely proud, but just. Afterall, freedom is almost useless without justice. And we don't have a spec of what we should have, given the power, money and influence we have.

All I can do is ask.

Depending on what transpires in the next 12-14 months with Grad School, you might be able to come visit me in Japan. Sake, keirin, teaching English (again), and no residue. I am ready for a change and a departure of sorts.
